Types of Gemstone Shapes

A gemstone shape refers to the outline or form of the gem. I have noticed that the shape of a gem is usually confused with the cut. Shape and cut are not the same. Gemstone cut is the faceting. Do note that diamonds are included in the list of gemstones. Therefore, gemstone shapes are also for diamonds. Just like profiles, shapes can be combined. For instance, if you want three stones on your engagement ring, the centre stone could be a heart shape while the other two placed on either side could both be oval shape.

This blog post gives a pictorial illustration of some shapes. By the time you get to the jeweller’s, you have less work choosing. The shapes illustrated below are the most popular and standard shapes. Feed your eyes and pick a shape that best describes your personality. Happy shopping!
