11 Wedding Day Disasters and How to Prevent Them

  • WEDDING PARTY NO-SHOWS – you intend having five bridesmaids and five groomsmen to make everything equal. That’s a great number! Quite unfortunate, without informing you, one of the bridal party members backs out. That leaves you to have an odd number of attendants. It is not compulsory to have an even number, either.

Questions and Comments from Wedding Guests and How to Answer Them

Someone said the day you take your girl to meet your mother is the day she starts planning the wedding. How true? What follows the popping of the question is wedding planning, either actively or passively. Anyway, the moment you announce your engagement to the world, streams of advice, comments and suggests start flowing in. in many cases, they are unsolicited,

WEDDING ETIQUETTE: Who Pays for What?

Things are changing these days. Gone are the days when the bride’s family solely finance the wedding just because they are the ones giving out a daughter. In recent times, we have seen the bills been split between families. So, who pays for what when it comes to your wedding? Basically, the bills are split between three parties – the bride’s family, the groom’s family and the couple.

Dealing With Conflicts during Wedding Planning

fighting on the floor
Due to the stress of planning itself, you do not want to engage in disagreements or disputes. The last thing you want to deal with is resolving family disputes. It’s the last thing on your mind. However, since weddings are major life events where all sorts of people within and outside the family converge to celebrate the fusion (I love to call it that) of two families, conflicts are inevitable.

Weddings and Family Differences

When a child is born, he/she is born into a family. No one exists alone without being connected to a family. You could have lost contact with your family; you are still a part of a family. However, when two people come together to live the rest of their lives together, little do they know what they are getting into. In the part of Africa where I come from, (need I say I am PROUDLY NIGERIAN), the family structure is very important. You are not just getting married to a guy or a gal; you are actually getting married to the whole family.

Bridesmaids Behaving Badly

fighting bridesmaids
Behind every bride is a group of ladies – the bridesmaids. Well, not all brides have bridesmaids. Some brides will make do with the maid of honour and the little bride. Bridesmaids are somewhat important to the ‘success’ of your wedding. ‘Success’ in quote, because you can do without them. It is not that they matter so much that you cannot do without them but they add beauty and colour to the wedding.

Beautiful wedding rings are not only for women; men now wear exquisite wedding rings not only as a sign of commitment to their wives but also as everyday jewellery. WEDDING BUDGET: 13 Creative Ways to Save on your Wedding

Everyone will agree with me without batting an eyelid that weddings cost money – for the couple and their respective families, especially. When I say saving money, I don’t imply that you are so wretched or so stingy either. I am only suggesting ways you can reduce unnecessary spending. As much as you deserve to have the high class wedding of your dreams, you do deserve to live a debt-free married life. Each of your unborn kids should arrive as bundles of joy and not another burden added to the debt you incurred because of your celebrity wedding.

7 Wedding Cake Don'ts

Cakes are delicious! And wedding cakes are beautiful! I am not sure I am a cake junkie like someone I know. At a wedding, I wouldn’t mind if I am not served the main meal; I always want a tiny bite of the wedding cake. As you already know, (in case you don’t know, now you know), your wedding cake will be visible to everyone at the reception.

Gemstone Settings

Have you ever considered how the gemstones on rings and other jewelries are set? Probably not! Today’s post saves you lots of research time before visiting your jeweler. Settings are to be considered depending on the prospective wearer’s daily activities. For instance, a setting that is suitable to wear for an office executive might not be suitable for a construction worker.

Types of Gemstone Shapes

A gemstone shape refers to the outline or form of the gem. I have noticed that the shape of a gem is usually confused with the cut. Shape and cut are not the same. Gemstone cut is the faceting. Do note that diamonds are included in the list of gemstones. Therefore, gemstone shapes are also for diamonds. Just like profiles, shapes can be combined. For instance, if you want three stones on your engagement ring, the centre stone could be a heart shape while the other two placed on either side could both be oval shape.

Gemstones for your Wedding and Engagement Rings

A gemstone is a precious mineral, which is cut and polished to make jewelry. As an alternative to diamonds for the budget conscious couple, beautiful gemstones can be set on your wedding or engagement ring to give it that complete finishing. These coloured gems are beautiful and can replace diamonds. In ancient times, some precious gems are associated with the zodiac sign or the month one is born in.

Wedding Ring Profiles

The profile of a wedding ring is its cross-sectional shape. If you were to cut through your ring, the shape you see is its profile. The profile of a ring determines how it fits on your finger. After considering your budget and the metal you want on your ring, the profile is how comfortably the ring will fit on your finger. You don’t a wedding ring that keeps snagging.

Wedding Ring Metal Choices

A wedding ring or wedding band, depending on the type of English you speak in your region, is a metal ring worn by a married person to signify that he or she is married. It is given to a spouse, usually at the wedding ceremony. In a church wedding, the rings are very important. In addition, Blessing the Rings is a very important 'ritual' in a Christian wedding ceremony.
As you are planning your wedding, it is advisable to shop for your wedding rings at least six months before the wedding date. This would allow time to visit as many stores and do lots of research; it also prevents panic shopping. By ordering your rings earlier, you are on the safe side, in case you may need to resize them. However, be informed in your choice of metal, as not all metals can be re-sized.

You have ordered your gown, booked the caterer, the decorator and all vendors that are needed for the day. You have even started a beauty regimen. Every element that constitutes a wedding seems covered, right? Darling Bride, if you get so worked up with the activities before the day, you may find out some very important details are forgotten. That’s where a professional wedding planner comes to work. She could be hired for the day coordination or planning everything from start to finish.

What is your Wedding Dress Length?

This is a question you have to answer personally when it comes to making a choice of the dress length and hemline. The hemline of your wedding dress is the level of the lower edge. Where the hem stops determines the dress length. Your choice will be influenced by, among other things, your figure (as you may have guessed) and the formality of your ceremony. In practice, shorter hemlines are appropriate for informal weddings. But if you have the heart, you can wear whatever you love, irrespective of the type of ceremony. The most important thing is being happy. I have added images to give you a vivid description of what I am talking about.

Styles of Wedding Dress Sleeves [Part 2]

After your dress silhouette and neckline, the sleeve is an important part of your wedding dress that dictates the look of the dress and how you feel wearing it. For the records, the sleeve is the part of the dress that wholly or partly covers the arm. There are basically three sleeve styles from which the others spring from – short, long or three-quarter. Recent trends have gone from short sleeves to baring it all. Since short sleeves are the in thing nowadays, it means it could be worn without considering the weather. However, I will not advise you to wear a long sleeve in a hot weather. Check out the last seven styles!

15 Wedding Wedding Dress Necklines to Pick From [Part2]

Your dress neckline is the edge of your dress at or below the neck. There are various necklines to choose from in order to add more beauty to your gown. Some names are self explanatory and need no further introduction while some are derivatives or similar to others. As always, do not be overwhelmed by the variety you have. Take note that not all necklines will fit every bride. When shopping for wedding gowns, try on as many silhouettes and necklines as possible. Following the trend or some hard rule may ruin your look on your big day. Do not be won over by sales talk; pick a neckline you love and are comfortable with. Below are some neckline images; feel free to add to the list before hitting the stores.

The wedding budget is a very important issue that needs communication between all parties involved – the couple and their respective families. Gone are the days when the bride’s family bears the burden all alone because they are giving out their daughter. The Chief Groomsman

It is a great honour that your dear friend asked you to be his Best man on his wedding day. You are excited, aren’t you? As the Best man, you are the chief, of all the other attendants at the wedding. Don’t get so thrilled yet. You have to understand that this honour extended to you by your groom friend comes with its own bills. When I say bills, I do not only imply financial commitment. Mr Groom doesn’t only expect to see you always behind his back on his big day. I don’t think you get it, dear excited Best man.

I am Not Your Maid!

You have this girlfriend you love to be your Chief Bridesmaid, right? Nevertheless, she has tied the knot with the love of her life. The question is can she still be your Maid of Honour? You have thought about the issue over and over. Having someone else fill that prestigious role on your wedding day is a nix! You have been friends for xx number of years. Is it a crime for your best friend to be married? Sure, it is not. So what do you do?

Here Comes My Maid of Honour

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, she is a young woman or girl who is not married and who is the main bridesmaid at a wedding. The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English defines her as the chief bridesmaid at a wedding. Finally, my mobile Concise Oxford English Dictionary calls her a principal bridesmaid. Enough of lexicon! Here comes my Maid of Honour. Right behind the pretty bride stands a beautiful handy maid. She is sometimes called the Chief Bridesmaid but I grew up hearing her to be called the Best lady. The focus is more on the bride but today, I am shinning my spotlight on the Maid of Honour. I prefer to call her that other than the old Best lady or the common Chief Bridesmaid. Hence, who is this Maid of Honour (MOH)? Basically, she is seen behind the bride.

When picking a wedding gown, the first thing to consider is the silhouette that will fit you. A dress silhouette refers to the shape of the dress. It describes the waist, skirt, bodice, bust line and flares. There are five basic wedding dress silhouettes as described below. Other variations originate from these five. The images below will give you a vivid description of the dress silhouettes.

Wedding Dress 101

Wedding bells! Wedding bells! Wedding bells! Hi dear, congrats on your upcoming ceremony. Have you started scouting around for your dress? I stand to be corrected though, when ladies talk weddings, the first thing that comes to mind is the dress! Apart from other things that will catch the eye of the guests at a wedding, especially the women folk, what the bride is wearing is of paramount importance. As the bride, you aren't permitted to look drab or slovenly just because you have a tight budget. You want to wow your guests and your brand new husband with the way you look.
