Wedding Guests Fashion Faux Pas

Are you going to a wedding soon? Then, you should make use of these few tips when choosing what you want to wear to the wedding. Either it’s the ceremony or reception, there are ways to dress.
Of course, it is not that if you dress anyway you want, you will get arrested by fashion police. Just a few tips…

  • THEME: Dress appropriately. Do not wear a dress meant for a casual ceremony to a formal ceremony. It’s common to see guests in denim jeans and tee-shirts. Take a cue from the invitation card and dress as required. If a ceremony is taking place at a church, that’s a formal ceremony.
  • COLOUR: For the women; do not wear white, ivory or its sister shades. This may not bother some brides, but as a rule, you shouldn’t wear white or its first cousin, ivory. If it’s stated on the invite that it’s a white-themed wedding, fine! To many, wearing white means you want to take attention away from the bride. But seriously, you know that’s impossible. There are a thousand and one colour of dresses to choose from.
  • SHOES: if the reception is taking place at a beach, garden or an open space, you would make a fool of yourself by wearing stiletto shoes. However, if high-heeled shoes are appropriate for the event, wear the height you are comfortable with. Do not force yourself to wear 6-inch heeled shoes when you have not practiced wearing it. It’s hilarious seeing a girl in uncomfortable shoes. Take a pair of flip-flops with you, anyway.
  • CEREMONY: dresses appropriate for places of worship especially churches are decent. Be mindful of the difference between a church and a clubhouse. This is not about denominations or spirituality. Avoid skimpy dresses or low cut necklines. You should be able to ‘lift up holy hands’ and ‘bend low’ for the Lord. It is a wedding ceremony not a nightclub.
